Experiential Environment Education Training Seminar held in Germany
The first WOSM Experiential Environment Education Training Seminar has been held with much success at Fritz Emmel Haus in Germany. The seminar offered an adult leader training component to support the delivery of the World Scout Environment Programme, with the first training seminar being targeted at European National Scout Organizations with support from the Alcoa Foundation.
Participants from Association of Scouts and Guides Czech Republic, ASDE - Scouts de Espana, Corpo Nacional de Escutas (Portugal), DPSG - Germany, Minyons Escoltes i Guies de Catalunya (Spain) and Scouting Ireland engaged in a diverse programme using experiential education activities throughout. The programme included the exploration of the environmental challenges of the world today, why it is important for young people to connect with nature, practical environmental education activities, youth programme development, the development and application of the World Scout Environment Programme and World Scout Environment Badge, sharing of Scouting and environment practices in each of the countries and how to communicate these matters with audiences internal and external to Scouting.
"I found the weekend to be very beneficial as a result of meeting other leaders with different Scouting, cultural and social background and experiences," said Mark Blake from Scouting Ireland. "It was good to be able to judge or measure our current and proposed programme and approach against those used in other countries to establish for our own information the level, quality and implementation process."
