First Scouts of the World Award Discovery in Thailand The first official Scouts of the World Award Discovery in Thailand
took place during 21-23 August 2009 by the Thai Rover Scout Association
and National Scout Organization of Thailand (NSOT) at Kaengkrachan
Riverside Scout Camp (KRSC). The SW Discovery was attended by 57 Rover
Scouts and 13 leaders and was supported by 10 members of staff. The SW
Discovery is an adventure lasting several days, organised with a focus
on environment, development or peace.
Since the past National Rover Scout Moot, Thai Rover Scouts have
joined the Scouts of the World Award initiative by creating temporary
Scouts of the World Bases in Petchburi and Chonburi supported by
Greenpeace (SE Asia) and KRSC.
Kaengkrachan Riverside Scout Camp (KRSC) has been registered as
“Climate Rescue Center” and it is supported by SolarGen Greenpeace (SE
Asia), the centre aims to support and empower people that are concerned
about environmental issues and want to take action in order to solve
environment and development problems. There are more than 6,000 Scouts
visiting the centre every year. This center offers an outdoor
exhibition about global climate change, global warming and how to
create alternative resources of energy such as windmill, solarcell,
hydroelectric, etc.
During this Scouts of the World Discovery, participants had the
opportunity to learn and discover about the Millennium Development
Goals (MDGs) and how to take a positive action in their communities.
They explored as well the Kaengkrachan Natural Park and Lake and the
Fish Conservation Project and also visited a hydropower plant.
After the exploration phase, participants worked in order to find
solutions to the problems that they had found and, at the end, they
presented draft projects and plans for their Scouts of the World
Voluntary Service.
